Review: The Bridges of Madison County by Robert James Waller

Februrary 23, 2024

Could have been great if it wasn’t bogged down by the male version of a manic pixie dream girl (I’m calling it jaded stoic artsy cowboy). The love story is compelling and sad, but a lot of their problems could have been solved by just picking up the phone.

Town gossip, family obligations, and societal expectations as barriers to true love also felt super realistic besides what other commenters have said. I just couldn’t mark it as a four or five because the cringe was just too strong to overlook. I literally laughed out loud when I read the falling from dimension z manuscript.
